The Department of Ecology and Genetics is an international environment with staff and students from all over the world. For more information, see www.ieg.uu.seThe limnology research program is currently looking for a research assistant in the field of aquatic microbial ecology.

Duties: We are looking for a research assistant to work on a variety of projects in the field of microbial community ecology. These projects include investigating (a) the effect of dispersal on aquatic microbial communities, (b) the microbial and viral communities of diverse aquatic environments. The research assistant will work together with PhD students and will be involved in the practical implementation of lab experiments and field work. Working tasks include lake and stream sampling, set-up and sampling of experiments (e.g. microcosm and dialysis bag experiments), filtration, cell abundance measurements, microscopy, DNA extraction, PCR, and biogeochemistry (analysis of DOC and nutrients).

Qualifications required: A BSc or MSc degree in Biology or related disciplines. Experience in limnology or a similar field is required as well as a keen interest in microbial ecology and community ecology. Experience in several of the abovementioned tasks is a desired qualification. We are looking for a responsible person with excellent collaboration skills who is also able to work independently. Candidates must be fluent in spoken as well as written English.
