Department of Public Health and Caring Sciences belongs to the Medical Faculty. The department has today about 300 employees. The work is divided into 13 research groups with main responsibility for research and teaching, including among others the school of medicine and the school of nursing. About 3000 students are registered within our various programmes and courses.

Duties
The holder of the position will conduct her/his own research within the research programme “Mental health in adolescence and the paths ahead. An ecological life course approach to mental health development into adulthood”. The overall aim of the programme is to analyse the importance of mental health in adolescence for well-being and health status into adulthood. The main database of the research programme is the Northern Swedish Cohort.

The holder of the position will conduct her/his own research focusing on theoretical development and quantitative analyses of the longitudinal data within the above mentioned research programme. He/she will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of researchers from several other universities.

The successful candidate should also expect (during around 10% of the work time) to work with research administration.

The following specific goals of the research programme will be in focus:

• To develop an ecological life course framework of mental health by conceptual integration of Bronfenbrenner’s ecological theory of human development and life course epidemiology and to apply this framework in our research.
• To study the impact of settings at specific ecological levels: micro level settings (family, peers, school, work) and exo level settings (parental labour market position, neighbourhood) on mental health at various ages as well as the interactions between settings at various ecological levels over the life course, taking changes at macro level (trade cycles, gender equality) into account.

Requirements
A postdoc is mainly employed for research. The postdoc must hold a PhD awarded within the last three years (counted from the last day of application) within the field of epidemiology, public health or other for the position relevant fields. In exceptional cases, this three-year period can be extended owing to circumstances such as parental leave, internship, illness or military service.

Also applicants who have submitted their thesis are eligible to apply. Formal decision about employment cannot be made before the thesis has been accepted.

The selection among the eligible applicants is based on our judgement of the applicants’ capacity to contribute to the fulfilment of the aim of the research programme. The selection criteria are:

• Skills in advanced quantitative methods, especially in longitudinal research
• Skills in writing scientific papers in peer-reviewed, international journals
• Specific knowledge relevant for the theme of the programme (life-course epidemiology, mental health as well as theories within these fields)

Special emphasis will be placed on personal suitability for the position including high motivation, documented collaborative skills, result-orientation, well-organised, have the ability to keep timeframes and to have other personal qualities necessary for performing the work tasks.
