Uppsala universitet, Institutionen för farmaci

The Department of Pharmacy offers a stimulating multidisciplinary working environment in research and teaching within the Pharmaceutical disciplines. The research is developed by a series of research groups, several of international prominence. Information about the Department of Pharmacy can be found at: www.farmfak.uu.se/farm/.

The Postdoctoral position will be linked to the research group in Drug Delivery at the Department of Pharmacy in close collaboration with the neighboring group in Molecular Neuropharmacology at the Department of Pharmaceutical Biosciences. The two groups share an interest in global omics research with special focus on membrane transporters. Integral membrane transporters are essential in regulating cellular energy supply and metabolism as well as determining the distribution of drugs and their metabolites in cell and tissues. The project will be undertaken in a multidisciplinary environment of about 40 PhD students, Post Docs and senior scientists. Current research in the drug delivery group explores the relationship between drug transport, drug exposure, cellular target and off target engagement, and pharmacological effect. Current research in the Molecular Neuropharmacology group explores altered metabolic processes that are important factors and possibly even causative for many neurodegenerative diseases.

The postdoctoral research project will investigate the functions of membrane transporters in experimental systems of different complexities, ranging from CRISPR/Cas knock out cell lines over primary cells to animal and human tissues. High resolution mass spectrometry-based proteomics and metabolomics in combination with bioinformatics analysis will be central tools in this work. Hands on experience and a strong interest in state-of-the-art mass spectrometry for metabolomics or proteomics research is desired. The project is of a collaborative nature and requires interpersonal skills.

Qualifications: To be eligible for the postdoctoral employment, the candidate must hold a PhD degree in biochemistry, analytical chemistry, cell- and molecular biology or other relevant area, acquired no more than three years prior to the application deadline (prolonged periods of parental leave, illness, military service, union duties or similar may be deducted).

Experience in high resolution mass spectrometry and/or associated bioinformatics analysis is an advantage as well as experience of cell culture, cell and molecular biology techniques. The candidate must have good computer skills and be proficient in English. Emphasis will be placed on interpersonal, leadership and organizational skills.

The application should include a letter describing yourself and your qualifications, a CV, copies of degree certificates/diplomas, relevant publications and contact information of at least two reference persons.

Uppsala University strives to be an inclusive workplace that promotes equal opportunities and attracts qualified candidates who can contribute to the University’s excellence and diversity. We welcome applications from all sections of the community and from people of all backgrounds.
