The Department has over 300 active persons with about 200 employees in addition to guest researchers and students doing research at the master level. The annual turnover is about 200 million SEK. For more information, visit Chemistry Ångström's website.

Applications are invited for a fully-funded four year PhD studentship in Physical Chemistry within the Department of Chemistry - Ångström Laboratory at Uppsala University.

Duties/Project description: The research project will focus on the electrochemical, spectroscopic and photochemical characterization of transition metal complexes, in particular novel iron complexes with long-lived excited states. The goal of this project is to establish the ground and excited state reactivity and to demonstrate light driven electron transfer and redox catalysis. The scientific outcome will contribute to the development of materials for solar energy conversion based on earth abundant metals.

Requirements: Candidates should hold a master degree in Chemistry (or equivalent qualification). The applicant should have solid knowledge in spectroscopy, photochemistry and electrochemistry and documented practical experience in these areas.  Experience of academic research on photo- and electrochemistry of transition metal complexes will be beneficial. We are looking for a self-motivated researcher willing to contribute to the overall aims of the research project in innovative ways and with high level of attention to detail. The candidate should have strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

Application procedure: The application should include a statement of research interest, CV, certificates of exams, degrees and grades, a copy of Master thesis, published article or relevant materials, if available. Also, contact information of at least two reference persons should be included.

The rules about PhD students are found in the Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 5 §§1-7 and the university's rules and guidelines.
