Uppsala universitet, Institutionen för kemi - Ångström

The Department of Chemistry - Ångström Laboratory conducts research and education in chemistry. The Department has over 300 active persons with about 200 employees in addition to guest researchers and students doing research at the master level. The annual turnover is about 200 million SEK. For more information, visit Chemistry Ångström's website.

The current PhD project will be carried out in collaboration between the Ångström Advanced Battery Centre at Structural Chemistry programme and the Polymer Chemistry programme.

The Department of Chemistry – Ångström Laboratory has for many years hosted a research environment focused on the development of materials and their applications within the energy storage area: the Ångström Advanced Battery Centre. We develop novel electrode and electrolyte materials, characterise them, evaluate and improve them with respect to battery performance, and study fundamental chemical processes and properties using both experimental and computational techniques. The research is, as such, both fundamental and applied.

The project is financed through the European Research Council.

Duties: The present research project regards synthesis and characterization of block-copolymeric systems for electrolytes in (primarily) Li-ion batteries. Important aspects are how the molecular structure influence the morphology of the materials, and how ion transport occur in the different phases that forms. Also the correlation between the ion conductivity and the mechanical properties of the materials are of interest.

Requirements: The applicant should have a master degree in chemistry, and possess a good understanding of polymer chemistry, materials chemistry and electrochemistry. Previous experience with synthetic polymer chemistry are valuable. The candidate must have excellent capabilities in written and oral English.

Application procedure: The application should include a statement of research interest, CV, certificates of exams, degrees and grades, a copy of Master thesis, published article or relevant materials, if available. Also, contact information of at least two reference persons should be included.

The rules about PhD students are found in the Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 5 §§1-7 and the university's rules and guidelines.

Uppsala University strives to be an inclusive workplace that promotes equal opportunities and attracts qualified candidates who can contribute to the University’s excellence and diversity. We welcome applications from all sections of the community and from people of all background.

Pay: According to local agreement (Local collective agreement for doctoral students and students).

Starting: 2018-09-01 or as otherwise agreed.

Type of employment: Temporary position for four years

Working hours: 100 %
