Uppsala Antibiotic Center (UAC, www.uac.uu.se) is an international and multidisciplinary center for the study of antibiotic resistance. The center was launched in 2016 to consolidate, stimulate and support research in the field of antibiotic resistance performed in Uppsala University's three Disciplinary Domains (Medicine and Pharmacy, Science and Technology, and Humanities and Social Sciences).

Department of Economic History The Department of Economic History has a strong teaching and research environment and we participate in a number of international, national, institutional and faculty-wide collaborations. The research at the department covers both modern and older economic history. The department is host to the Uppsala Centre for Business History. There is also a strong research environment devoted to Science and Technology Studies. Approximately fifty teachers, researchers and visiting scholars are associated with the department, including more than twenty PhD students.

Department of Business Studies The Department of Business Studies conducts research and education in five main fields: International Business, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Management and Organization, and Accounting and Finance. Research in the field of International Business has an international reputation for excellence. The research deals particularly with issues such as the firm’s internationalization process, the management of multinational firms, cross-cultural management and interdisciplinary studies of global phenomena. The Department of Business Administration is a large institution with approximately 140 employees and more than 2,000 students. At the department there are extensive postgraduate studies with approximately 40 PhD students. The research schools MIT and FIRE are also linked to the department.

Description of the subject area
A major challenge in our globalized world is the prevalence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. They pose a serious threat to public health. In order to counteract antibiotic resistance, collaboration between researchers, authorities and companies is required. In order to successfully create new innovation efforts to combat antibiotic resistant bacteria, new business models are needed. Multidisciplinary research with a foundation in economic history or international business is of highest relevance to this research field.

Duties: Research and teaching within economic history or business studies (international business). Teaching includes course coordination, supervision and course administration. Employment may also include administrative tasks. Duties also include to follow developments within the subject area as well as developments in the society, to write research applications in the field and to hold lectures for the public as well as scientifically motivated audiences. Some limited teaching within UAC is included also.

Period of employment: The post of Associate Senior Lecturer may be held for up to four years with the possibility of promotion to Senior Lecturer.

Qualifications required: To be eligible for employment as an associate senior lecturer, applicants must hold a PhD or have achieved equivalent scientific expertise and must meet the requirements for teaching skills. Preferably, the applicant will have completed a PhD or achieved equivalent expertise no more than seven years before the application deadline. The applicant should have completed five weeks of department-relevant teacher training at the higher education level, or be deemed to have equivalent knowledge.

A basic demand is that teaching, research and other skills and competences should be relevant for the subject matter of and tasks intended for the position.

Under Uppsala University's appointment regulations, it is also a general eligibility requirement that teachers possess the personal qualities necessary to capably perform the duties of the post.

Applicants must have the ability to teach in Swedish or English. Any appointee who is only proficient in one of these languages at the start of employment must be able to also teach in the other language within two years.

Assessment criteria: Scientific proficiency refers to research and the applicant's ability to contribute to the future development of research as well as education in the subject area. In assessing scientific skill, scientific quality shall be taken into account first and foremost. The scope of research, especially with regard to depth and breadth and familiarity of using both qualitative and quantitative methods, will be taken into account. When assessing scientific skills, particular emphasis will be placed on research issues where a socioeconomic and/or business economics perspective has been used to analyze conditions and organizational forms related to use, production/distribution and the development of research-intensive products and services. Documented research experience in areas associated with antibiotics is seen as merit.

Teaching expertise: Teaching expertise will be assessed as carefully as research expertise. Teaching skills refer to educational and teaching qualifications, and teaching quality will be the prime consideration. The scope of teaching experience, in terms of both breadth and depth, will also be afforded consideration.

Administrative skills and other proficiencies are also important for this position and will be factored in accordingly. Administrative skills are demonstrated through, amongst other things, the ability to plan, organize and prioritize work effectively and in a purposeful manner.

Ability to collaborate with other disciplines and to interact with the scientific community and the community at large will be considered as an important merit. Documented experience in leading multidisciplinary research is also considered as a major merit.

Additionally, special emphasis will be placed on the applicant’s potential to contribute to the future development of both research and education.

Qualifications should be documented so that both quality and scope can be assessed.
