Department of Chemistry - Ångström Laboratory conducts research and education in chemistry. The Department has over 300 active persons, of which 185 are employees and the rest consists of guest researchers and students doing research at Masters level. Duties: The PhD project will be carried out at Ångström Advanced Battery Centre (ÅABC) which is part of the structural chemistry program at Uppsala University. The goal of this project is to fundamentally understand chemical and electrochemical reactions involving oxygen gas and oxygen species in Li-O2 (Li-air) and Li-ion batteries. The scientific outcome will be beneficial to improve performance Li-ion batteries using high voltage cathodes. The project involves using variety of electrochemical characterization, online electrochemical mass spectroscopy, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and synchrotron-based x-ray absorption spectroscopy.

Requirements: Candidates should hold a master degree in chemistry or alternatively in materials science. Experiences with materials synthesis and characterization is necessary. Any experience in using electrochemical techniques and photoelectron spectroscopy to study batteries or other electrochemical systems is beneficial. The candidate should have good skills in speaking and writing in English.

Also, contact information of at least two reference persons should be included.The research education corresponds to four years of full-time studies, and it can be complemented with up to 20% teaching, whereby the total employment time becomes five years. The salary is set in accordance with local guidelines of the Section of Chemistry, Uppsala University. Rules governing Ph.D. candidates are set out in the Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 5, §§ 1-7 and in Uppsala university's rules and guidelines.
