Uppsala universitet, Institutionen för teknikvetenskaper

At the Division of Solid State Electronics, Department of Engineering Sciences, The Angstrom Laboratory.

The position is for one year starting as soon as possible. The position is extendable for a second year.

Background: The research at the Division of Solid State Electronics is focused in two main areas: Electronics for Sustainable Energy and Electronics for Smart Healthcare. Specific research fields include solar cells, flexible electronics, sensors, energy-efficient RF-devices, biomedical microwave technology and thin film technologies.

Work description: The research activities related to this announced researcher position concern development, fabrication and characterization of optoelectronic biosensors. The biosensors will be based on novel semiconductor materials especially ultrathin or layered two-dimensional (2D) semiconductors as an ultrasensitive surface or as an enabler of new classes of sensors operating in dry and wet environments. One such semiconductor material is MoS2. The research activities are: (1) development of fabrication process for integration of the novel semiconductor materials in optoelectronic devices by utilizing the cleanroom facilities at The Ångström Laboratory, (2) electrical and optical characterization of the manufactured devices in both atmospheric ambience and electrolytes using our advanced measurement laboratories, (3) functionalization of the sensor surface to enable the desired sensor functionalities, and (4) detection of protons (i.e. pH values) and DNA molecules. Successful candidate will be working in a research group that has been working on semiconductor devices, nanoscale semiconductor sensors, low-dimensionality semiconductor materials including carbon nanotubes, graphene and layered 2D transition metal dichalcogenides (e.g. MoS2) and thin-film technology. Of the cross-disciplinary nature, the research requires close collaboration with scientists and engineers in electronics, physics, microsystem technology, surface chemistry, electrochemistry and biochemistry, both within and outside the group.

Qualifications required: PhD in solid-state electronics, electronic engineering or materials science. Previous experience in electrical and/or optical measurements. Previous experience in processing and fabrication of semiconductor devices based on III-V semiconductor materials in cleanroom laboratories. Good oral and written proficiency in English. Constructive and collaborative attitude.

The application should include:

  • Cover letter with a brief description of previous research, research interests, and qualifications.
  • CV and list of publications.
  • Copy of degree diplomas, other official academic transcripts.
  • Names of two reference persons, along with their contact details.
