Uppsala University, Department of Physics and Astronomy

Applications are invited for a fully-funded PhD studentship in extragalactic astronomy, under the supervision of Associate Professor Erik Zackrisson. The PhD project is expected to focus on the study of high-redshift galaxies with the upcoming James Webb Space Telescope. The project is expected to involve both data analysis and numerical modelling. The starting date is September 1, 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position as PhD student is limited to four years of full-time studies, or up to five years if departmental work (teaching or administration) is included.

Qualifications
This position requires a University degree in Astronomy or Physics at an advanced level (e.g. a MSc degree) completed by the time of employment. Good oral and written proficiency in English is a requirement as well as the capacity to work both independently and in a team.

Employment conditions The Doctoral student position is a 4-year appointment, and the candidate will primarily devote the time to his/her own research studies. Extension, up to a maximum of five years, is possible by including department duties at a level of at most 20%, typically teaching. The position is fully financed and the salary is in accordance with local guidelines at Uppsala University. The applicant must be eligible for Postgraduate studies at Uppsala University.
