We are looking for a research engineer for a permanent position which will be part of the department’s technical support function. Approximately one third of the working time will be allocated to the department’s undergraduate education in analytical chemistry, while the rest of the time comprises technical support to the research programs in biochemistry, organic chemistry and analytical chemistry.

Duties: We are looking for a technically skilled person with experience of chemical analysis instruments that will be responsible for the department’s instrument park. The tasks include maintenance, service, calibration, validation and configuration of analysis instruments including computers and software, as well as training of new users. You will also be the contact person in case external service technicians need to be consulted. An important part of your work is to run the undergraduate course lab facilities for analytical chemistry, which in addition to instrument maintenance also includes tasks such as purchase of chemicals and consumables, waste handling, registration and inventory of chemicals in KLARA. You are also responsible for maintaining order and introduce new teachers to the routines of the undergraduate laboratories. Other technical and laboratory tasks as well as some administrative tasks may be included in the position.

Qualifications: We are looking for a person with higher education in the technical area, preferably in the field of chemistry, or equivalent. Previous work as service technician with experience of GC, MS, HPLC and various spectroscopic techniques is meriting, as well as competence in computer technology since many of our instrument computers are very old. We put great emphasis on your personal characteristics. This position demands that you take great responsibility in planning the work yourself and develop your competence due to the needs of the organization, which means that you need to be structured, driven and able to take initiative. Sometimes there can be periods of high work load and conflicting requirements from the organization, and therefore it is also important that you can prioritize your tasks in an efficient way.  Since your main task will be to support researchers and teachers in their work you also need to be flexible, service minded and have great collaboration skills. Good knowledge in English is a demand since many of our coworkers have an international background. It is meriting if you also have good knowledge in Swedish and you need to be able to communicate with people that have another technical background than you. If you do not speak Swedish we will expect you to do so within two years.
