Uppsala universitet, Institutionen för kemi - Ångström

Department of Chemistry - Ångström Laboratory conducts research and education in chemistry. The Department has over 300 active persons, of which 200 are employees and the rest consists of guest researchers and students doing research at Master level. Annual turnover is just over 200 million SEK. For more information, visit the Chemistry Ångström's website.

The Department of Chemistry – Ångström Laboratory has for many years hosted a research environment focused on the development of materials and their applications within the energy storage area: the Ångström Advanced Battery Centre. We develop novel electrode and electrolyte materials, characterize them, evaluate and improve them with respect to battery performance, and study fundamental chemical processes and properties using both experimental and computational techniques. The research is, as such, both fundamental and applied.

Duties: The primary focus of the research project will be characterization of metal (Li, Na) electrode surfaces using photoelectron spectroscopy (primarily XPS) and electron microscopy methodologies. Of particular interest is the Li-S battery system. The research will also involve battery prototype construction and testing, and electrochemical analysis of the battery cells.

Requirements: The applicant should have a PhD in Chemistry or Physics, and be very well acquainted with photoelectron spectroscopy techniques. Familiarity with synchrotron sources are recommended, as is experience of electron microscopy. A background within the Li battery research field and knowledge of electrochemistry are appreciated.

For employment as postdoc, the applicant should have a PhD exam or an international equivalent within a maximum of three years before the final application date. During certain circumstances, an earlier PhD can be acceptable.
Additional qualifications: The candidate must have excellent capabilities in written and oral English.

Uppsala University strives to be an inclusive workplace that promotes equal opportunities and attracts qualified candidates who can contribute to the University’s excellence and diversity. We welcome applications from all sections of the community and from people of all backgrounds.
