The Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology at Uppsala University (www.igp.uu.se) has a broad research profile with strong research groups focused on cancer, autoimmune and genetic diseases. A fundamental idea at the department is to stimulate translational research and thereby closer interactions between medical research and health care. Research is presently conducted in the following areas: medical and clinical genetics, clinical immunology, pathology, neuro-oncology, vascular biology, radiation science and molecular tools. Department activities are also integrated with the units for Oncology, Clinical Genetics, Clinical Immunology, Clinical Pathology, and Hospital Physics at Akademiska sjukhuset, Uppsala. The department has teaching assignments in several education programmes, including Master Programmes, at the Faculty of Medicine, and in a number of educations at the Disciplinary Domain of Science and Technology. The department has a yearly turnover of around SEK 375 million, out of which more than half is made up of external funding. The staff amounts to approximately 340 employees, out of which 120 are PhD-students, and there are in total more than 600 affiliated people.
Science for Life Laboratory, SciLifeLab, is a Swedish national center for molecular biosciences with focus on health and environmental research. The center combines frontline technical expertise with advanced knowledge of translational medicine and molecular bioscience. SciLifeLab is a joint effort between Karolinska Institutet, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm University and Uppsala University. SciLifeLab was established in 2010 and appointed a national center in 2013. Today, approximately 1,500 persons work at the center’s two sites in Stockholm and Uppsala.
This position is placed at SciLifeLab in Uppsala, but in close cooperation with SciLifeLab in Solna. The successful candidate will be working at the SciLifeLab Data Centre, a newly formed unit with responsibility for IT- and data management issues, serving our technology platforms, their users and Swedish researchers in general. Working at the Data Centre, you will be at the core of Sweden’s top infrastructure for life sciences and have the opportunity to actively shape how state-of-the-art IT services are integrated in Swedish life science research, and help to maximize the scientific impact of the large amount of research data generated at SciLifeLab.
Work description:
1-2 system engineers to work on development of systems for whole genome sequencing data. These include systems for data from Nordic reference populations, imputation of genetic data, and secure systems for managing controlled access for research data on human samples. SciLifeLab Data Centre promote following principles of Open Science, with openness, transparency and reproducibility for Swedish research data. This position requires close cooperation and good communication with both researchers, technical and administrative personnel. The work is in close collaboration with international partners.
