Uppsala University, Department of Ecology and Genetics

A position as a postdoctoral researcher in Evolutionary Biology is available at the Department of Ecology and Genetics, Uppsala University.

The Department of Ecology and Genetics is an international environment with staff and students from all over the world. Our research spans from evolutionary ecology and genetics to studies of ecosystems. For more information, see www.ieg.uu.se.

Project description: Arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi form symbiotic interactions with almost all terrestrial plants and have done so since they first colonized land. Despite their ecological and evolutionary importance, few genomes of AM fungi are available. With novel single nuclei genomic tools we are able to generate genomic data from these enigmatic fungi. The candidate will annotate AM genomes generated in our lab and perform comparative genomic analyses. Topics of interest to the group include the MAT locus, copy number variation and analysis of transposable elements. Further the candidate will be involved in ongoing comparative genomic analyses of species within the Archaeorhiozomycetes.

Qualifications required/desired: The candidate must hold a PhD degree within Bioinformatics, Evolutionary Biology, Microbiology, Mycology or equivalent. Experience in bioinformatics and genome analysis is a must and experience in mycology and/or phylogenetics is a merit. The ideal candidate is scientifically motivated and can work both independently and as part of a team. Candidates must be fluent in spoken as well as written English.

To be eligible the candidate must have a PhD degree completed less than three years before the application deadline. If there are special reasons, the degree can have been completed earlier. Special reasons can for example include parental leave, leave due to illness, or union work.

Position: This is a full time temporary position for 24 months. Individual salaries applied.

Access:  March 15, 2018 or as soon as possible as agreed.

Instructions for the application: The application should include 1) a letter of intent where the applicant describes oneself and the research interests (Max one A4 page), 2) CV, 3) a copy of the doctoral degree and 4) contact information to three reference persons; please, include mail address and phone number.
